Loose Leaf Projects

A Practice for Project-Making

Restorative Creative Development

Loose Leaf is an art studio in-the-making featuring work by artist Karen Kopacz. The vision for the studio nurtures the practice of project-making and restorative creative development experiences. Its guiding philosophy embraces craft, story, organic process, idea-sharing, and togetherness.

Print Collections & Artist-Designed Books

Loose Leaf is also a developing model for collaborative projects with guest creators. As the concept evolves, its projects will explore art-making and story in the context of print collections and limited-edition artist-designed books and journals. Its pilot project, New Midwestern Nature Stories, is the first in a series of projects to come. It is also an archive for past collaborations, including Mental Contagion—a monthly online journal (2000-2008) that featured work from artists and writers with national and international reach.

Day-Long Creative Retreats

Nature-immersive experiences enliven our senses and foster deeper connection with ourselves, each other, and the living world. On occasion, the studio will host day-long small group creative retreats. In this Northern Wisconsin woodland setting, collaborators and guests will be able to ease into creative flow or workshop new ideas. The studio will not be available for overnight stays, but resort lodging and free camping options area accessible within 10 minutes for guests who would like to extend their stay in the area. Offerings will be announced in 2024.
